Produced by legendary German drummer Wolfgang Haffner, this impressive debut album features an all-star lineup of guest artists, including Dominic Miller, Nils Langren, and Simon Oslander. With a conductor for a father and an opera singer for a mother, she has been exposed to jazz and pop songs since childhood. She has a unique musical background, having been strongly influenced by Sting and even being a Metallica fan at one point. After studying jazz vocals at the Munich University of Music and Performing Arts in 2016, she honed her talent by studying for one semester at the Royal Academy of Music in London under Norma Winston, who has also released albums on ECM. Her talent was discovered by Wolfgang Hafner on stage at the Burghausen International Jazz Week 2019, where she performed in a jam session. They went on to collaborate frequently, and in 2020, she was featured on his album “Kind of Tango.” Hafner says: “The moment I first heard Alma at the 2019 jam session, I was blown away by the sheer impact.” Her unique and exceptional vocal style is captivating, and the prestigious German jazz magazine “JazzSing” raved about her “delicate, wonderfully clear voice and perfect intonation.” Track 1 features Alma’s ethereal vocals paired with guest Nils Langren’s warm, lyrical trombone solo; a duet with Simon Osländer on a Billy Joel cover (4), and a melancholic minor-key ballad gently accompanied by Dominic Miller on guitar (10)—the album is packed with highlights. This debut album, released by a singer just 25 years old, is a work that lives up to its title, *A Star Is Born*. It is a masterpiece sent out to the world from Germany.
