Old friends from the "Gad Gang" days, Steve Gadd, Eddie Gomez, and Ronnie Cuban, come together to perform with the WDR Big Band! Bobby Sparks and Djimon Oslender will join the band as guests for a set of classic tunes including repertoire from "Stuff" and "Gad Gang"! Under the direction of Michael Abene, a heavenly groovy album is born. Baritone saxophonist Ronnie Cuban and bassist Eddie Gomez have been trusted members of Steve Gadd's Gadd Gang since the mid-80s, when the band was a "live band" with a sound characterized by a mix of funk, soul, and R&B. The WDR Big Band is one of Europe's leading big bands, operated by WDR, the Western German Broadcasting Company. WDR Big Band is one of the leading big bands in Europe, operated by WDR, the West German Broadcasting Company.In 2011, there was already talk of a collaboration with Steve Gadd and the WDR Big Band, but their schedules didn't match up. However, the opportunity finally arose in January 2022, and they were able to produce this work. For Michael Abene, Big Band conductor, he has known Ronnie Cuban and Eddie Gomez since they were teenagers as members of The Newport Youth Band. It was also a reunion with the big band he led as principal conductor for 10 years. The supporting guests were also very impressive, including Hammond B3 organist Bobby Sparks II and Djimon Oslender, the former playing the Rhodes, the latter the piano, and the groove of the band.The Gad Gang's predecessor band, Stuff, also performed Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" and Bob Dylan's "Watching the River Flow" in their repertoire, as well as "I Can't" from the Gad Gang's repertoire. Turn You Loose," "Che Ore So'," "Them Changes," "Way Back home," "Lucky 13," "Honky Tonk/I Can't Stop Loving You," and "My Little Brother" from the Gad Gang repertoire.
