Description:
Formed around guitarist Don Schott (g/b/produce) from Ohio, this instrumental psychedelic/space rock band’s sole album from 1982—originally released on their independent label Eye Records—is set to be released on CD for the first time in 2026 by Paisley Press in Germany! The album consists of three epic tracks exceeding 10 minutes each and a shorter track in the 4-minute range titled " "Fritz & Beano," which runs just over four minutes. Their style ranges from groovy space rock to abstract dark ambient, creating a unique and multi-layered sound that reflects the early ’80s era while drawing on an experimental approach rooted in ’70s psychedelic rock and Krautrock. "Return To Zero" unfolds a desolate, abstract soundscape reminiscent of Tangerine Dream’s *ZEIT*, stretching endlessly without beginning or end; "Sometimes I Get Lonely," which coats the jam-improvisation style of early GURUGURU with a hard-edged post-punk texture, all exude a very strong sense of individuality; however, the standout track is "Things Beyond Our Control," where drugged-out synths and wild guitars resonate with a human-driven beat consisting of a driving, repetitive bassline and pounding drums. That sound is truly an uplifting brand of space rock—one that could be called a precursor to OZRICTENTACLES, who would later take the 1980s UK neo-psychedelic scene by storm—and It’s astonishing that a band producing this kind of sound existed in the U.S. at the time—truly an outlier in the 1980s American underground scene!
