A collection of operetta arias by the incomparable tenor Fritz Wunderlich! Now available on LP! Born in 1930 in Kusel, Rhineland-Palatinate, to a cellist father and a violinist mother, Fritz Wunderlich was immersed in music from an early age. Due to the hardships caused by the war and his father’s death, he was unable to pursue formal musical studies for quite some time; it wasn’t until he was 20 that he was finally able to study horn and voice at the University of Freiburg. By that time, his beautiful voice had already gained a reputation, and at the age of 24, he was given the opportunity to sing the lead role of Tamino in *The Magic Flute* at a university performance. The following year, the year he graduated from university, he had already signed a contract with the Stuttgart State Opera; thereafter, he signed contracts with the Bavarian State Opera and the Vienna State Opera, and his talent was so outstanding that he appeared at numerous music festivals, including the Salzburg Festival. However, on September 17, 1966, he fell down the stairs at a friend’s vacation home, bringing his short life to an end at the age of just 35. As a singer on the verge of his debut at the Metropolitan Opera and at the peak of his career, people around the world mourned his death, and his fame has not faded even 50 years after his passing. This album features recordings from his appearances on the popular Bavarian Radio program “Sundays in Munich” from 1959 to 1965, as well as arias from operettas recorded in the studio.
