A Collection of Works by François Dufau, a Master Lute Player of 17th-Century France! André Heinrich is a German-born lutenist currently based in Paris (as of 2017). As a soloist on the lute, theorbo, and Baroque guitar, as well as a chamber musician and continuo player, he has performed with Les Arts Florissants, La Symphonie du Marais, Les Musiciens de Saint-Julien, Les Folies Françaises, and Opera Fuoco, and has contributed to more than 40 albums to date. Together with his partner, keyboardist Kae Hatano, he frequently performs in Japan. A collection of lute works by François Dufau (1604–c. 1672), one of the most famous lute players in 17th-century France during the French lute revolution—an era that began with the new tuning system established by the elder Gautier. This is a rare album featuring exclusively the works of Dufau, who is often recorded and performed alongside other members of the Gautier school, such as Gallo and Mouton. Dufau is credited with spreading the “French style” throughout Europe, and many of his works have been preserved in published scores not only in France but also in England and Germany.
