Description:
Bob van Asperen! Froeberger Edition Complete! The Froeberger Editions, the life's work of Bob van Asperen, an authority on Dutch classical music. Volume 8, "Toccata Collection," to be released in 2016, the 400th anniversary of Froeberger's birth, will finally complete the project! Johann Jakob Froberger (1616-1667), active in 17th century Germany before the advent of J.S. Bach, left a significant mark on the development of keyboard music by adopting Italian, French, and German styles. Volume 8 features not only the Toccata collection, which paved the way for the later J.S. Bach, but also two motets recorded for the first time in the world. The instruments are mainly original Italian harpsichords (Kenneth Gilbert Collection), circa 1677, and the two "for the Eucharist" toccatas are only on the Cipri Organ 1556 in the Basilica di San Martino (Bologna) and the final track, "Toccata No. 2", Hermanns organ 1664 in the Church of Spirito Santo (Pistoia).
