Volume 5 of the collection of organ works by Hans Fehrmann. Volumes 1 through 3 were released by MITRACLASSICS. Hans Fehrmann (1860–1940) was born in Beich, in the Meissen district of Saxony. From 1890 to 1926, he served as cantor at St. Johannes Church in Dresden, and during the same period, he also taught organ at the Dresden Conservatory. Organ Sonata No. 6 is believed to have been composed around 1905–06. It is in three movements, with the final movement being a magnificent fugue. “Song of Farewell and Freedom” is a large-scale work consisting of 10 pieces and lasting over 50 minutes. Dietrich von Knöbel is a German organist born in 1959. He currently serves at the Evangelical Church in Frankfurt-Hechst. The recording features the organ at the Feuerhalle in Johannisfriedhof, Dresden-Torkewitz (built in 1928 by Julius Jahn of Dresden) and the organ at the Feuerhalle in the crematorium there (built in 1911 by the same company).
