A Rare Version of Mendelssohn’s Masterpiece! The “Reformation” Symphony with Chorus?! This album features Mendelssohn’s “Reformation” Symphony and Giese’s Symphony No. 3, which gained fame after being endorsed by Mendelssohn. Why are the names of singers and a choir listed for these two pieces? In fact, the “Reformation” Symphony by Mendelssohn included on this CD is an arrangement in which vocal parts have been added to the third and fourth movements. The arranger, Torsten Stelzek, was born in 1963 in Saalfeld. He serves as the director of church music in the town of Hiltburghausen in central Germany. This arrangement was created to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in 2017 and was published by Breitkopf & Härtel. The fourth movement features the chorale “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God,” which Mendelssohn quoted, while the third movement includes a duet based on the psalm “O God, You Are Our Refuge.” This is the world premiere recording. Gregor Mayer is an active choral conductor who founded the Vocal Consort Leipzig in 1999. Since 2007, he has served as music director of the venerable Gewandhaus Choir. Camerata Lipsiensis was founded in 1992 and has recently achieved great success performing with the Gewandhaus Choir under Meyer’s baton. Julia Sophie Wagner is a soprano active in Leipzig and Dresden. Martin Petzold is a veteran tenor who has enjoyed popularity at the Leipzig Opera for over 30 years. Tobu Land System
