The great conductor Felix Weingartner originally aspired to be a composer but switched to conducting for financial reasons. However, even after this change, he never stopped composing, leaving behind eight operas, seven symphonies, and a vast number of chamber music works and art songs; in recent years, he has been rapidly reevaluated as a composer. His art songs embody the finest traditions of the German Lied, featuring highly captivating, flowing melodies reminiscent of Brahms, Wolf, and R. Strauss, all adorned with brilliant harmonies. This is an album that fans of the German Lied and vocal music professionals will not regret listening to. Furthermore, his song cycle based on Japanese poetry features German translations of waka poems by figures such as Shizuka Gozen, Izumi Shikibu, and Prince Ōtsu. Tobu Land System
