*The Music of Günter Raphael, Vol. 5* is a collection of concertinos and chamber music. The unaccompanied viola sonata was composed in 1924. It incorporates a fugue, a gavotte, a minuet, and a gigue. The Concertino for Viola and Small Orchestra was composed in 1941. With the string section lacking violins and violas, it exudes a peculiar sense of darkness. The Trio was composed in 1940. It is a bright, neoclassical-style work. The Concertino for Flute and Small Orchestra was composed in 1956. The recording included here was made for broadcast three days before its public premiere. It is conducted by the Czech maestro Ančerl. Tobu Land System
