Celebrating the 200th Anniversary of His Birth! Mendelssohn Anthology, Volume 1 “Everyone Is Listening Right Now! Everyone!”—Music and Letters This year marks the 200th anniversary of Mendelssohn’s birth. To commemorate this occasion, the QUERSTAND label—based near Leipzig, a city closely associated with Mendelssohn—has decided to release the “Mendelssohn Anthology,” a 10-volume series. While some tracks—such as readings of letters and biographical excerpts—may be somewhat challenging, this promises to be a valuable anthology offering the chance to hear rare works by Mendelssohn and his contemporaries. The Iturraga Quartet, which performs the tracks on the first disc, was founded in Leipzig in 1996. Praised for their distinctive style, exceptional technique, and the strong trust among its members, they won first place at the European Broadcasting Union competition in 2000. They have been expanding their performance venues to include famous concert halls and major music festivals across Europe, as well as South Korea in 2003 and South America in 2006. And now, they’ve finally arrived in Japan! You can look forward to their performance. The second disc features art songs and letters by Mendelssohn. Packed with German, it lets you immerse yourself in a feeling as if you’ve slipped back in time to his era.
