For the program of their debut CD, they have chosen works of French contemporary music. This CD features a rare and compelling program ranging from major works by leading 20th-century French composers such as Tomasi, Milhaud, and Beryl to a collection of short pieces by Remke—marking their world premiere recording! Remke’s short pieces are technically demanding works that effectively employ various wind instrument techniques to express a hazy, ambiguous sound. The sounds produced by blowing strongly or letting the air escape evoke a hazy, smoky scene. Meanwhile, in Milhaud’s suite *King René’s Hearth*, listeners will be enchanted by the many gentle melodies reminiscent of Debussy and Ravel. From atonal, technically demanding works to traditional pieces brimming with soft resonance, this album allows you to fully savor every nuance of the diverse sounds of 20th-century French wind quintets! The Pentanemos Wind Quintet is an up-and-coming ensemble founded in 2004. Composed of virtuosos from world-renowned orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the Augsburg Symphony Orchestra, and the Bavarian State Orchestra, this is a highly talented ensemble.
