The ever-evolving Jacques Thibaud Trio has recorded the complete string trios of Milhaud and Martineau! The disc features the trio's performances of the most important trio repertoire of the 20th century. On this disc, the trio takes up the challenge of performing works by Milhaud and Martineau (Martineau), both active in the 20th century. Milhaud, the leader of the French sextet, was a prolific composer with a distinctive flavor, with romantic tendencies in his neoclassical works, and he left behind many chamber music works. The two pieces included here were both composed in the 1940s, when he came to the U.S. to avoid World War II. The fashionable melodies are impressive, as is typical of Milhaud. On the other hand, the composer Martineau was born in the Czech Republic in 1890, moved to Paris in the 1920s, and immigrated to the U.S. in the 1950s, where he became a fan of modern neoclassical music. Like Milhaud, he left many works in various fields, and the two pieces recorded here are also excellent works that showcase Martineau's individuality.The Jacques Thibaud Trio, with its eloquent narration and truly superb ensemble, has made a new recording of its best work to date!
