Piano Duo Takahashi Lehmann
Description:
Surpassing the Originals: Masterpiece Piano Duo Arrangements The ultimate album from the talented piano duo of Japanese pianist Reie Takahashi and German pianist Björn Lehmann is here. This collection brings together masterpieces from the worlds of orchestral and chamber music—works so perfectly formed that one cannot imagine them in any other form—arranged by the composers themselves for four-hand piano. Among these, Schumann’s Symphony No. 2 is a world premiere recording. Though written for four hands, each piece is an extremely challenging work. While Beethoven’s and Schoenberg’s original piano duo works are not particularly popular, these two pieces radiate a diabolical brilliance and charm. Schoenberg’s piece features intertwining voices driven by intricate note movements, while Beethoven’s Great Fugue is no less complex—it borders on contemporary music. The climax is also breathtaking and incredibly thrilling. While Schumann’s symphonies are often discussed in terms of orchestration issues, this version—performed solely on the piano—surprises with its transparent and crisp sound. Surprisingly, it is rich in the beauty and dramatic effect of an original piano work, revealing the true charm of Symphony No. 2. With the rich, full sound unique to four-hand piano, it delivers a deeply satisfying experience. Rei Takahashi and Björn Lehmann both studied under Klaus Helwig at the Berlin University of the Arts. Lehmann currently serves as a professor there, and the two of them have become familiar figures in Japan, frequently holding master classes together. King International
