A Collection of Lyrical Miniatures (SACD) by the Acclaimed Pianist Eiko Harada This year marks the 100th anniversary of the death of Edvard Grieg, Norway’s national composer. These lyrical miniatures were composed throughout Grieg’s lifetime, and this collection could be said to embody Grieg’s musical life itself. The performance is by Eiyo Harada. She studied at the Tokyo University of the Arts and its graduate school, then went on to study at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, before furthering her studies under Professor Viktor Merzhanov at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow. In 1984, she won the top prize at the Geneva International Music Competition; in 1991, she won first prize at the International Schubert Piano Competition and second prize at the Vienna 20th-Century Piano Music Competition; and in 1993, she was a finalist and received a special prize at the 1st International Rachmaninoff Piano Competition. Having achieved steady growth as a pianist, she continues to perform internationally. For this album, she personally selected 22 pieces from the 66-piece *Lyric Pieces* collection. With her fresh sensibility, she weaves poetic and romantic melodies, singing them out richly to vividly depict the scenes. In addition, Eiyo Harada has concerts scheduled in Japan this year (2007) in September and November.
