Description:
The second volume in the popular series of high-quality recordings of virtuoso organist Martin Neu playing a famous instrument! This is the second volume in the popular series featuring Bach and German composers by the organ virtuoso Martin Neu. In the first volume, entitled "J.S. Bach and the North German Tradition" (AU 92547), the organ built by Arendt, one of the best organ builders of our time, at St. Otto's Church was used to perform works by Bach, Böhm, and others with a high degree of perfection. The highly anticipated second disc is titled "J.S. Bach and the South German Tradition" and features works closely associated with Bach and southern Germany. The composers are as follows: Georg Muffat (1653-1704), court organist to the Archbishop of Salzburg; Johann Pachelbel (1653-1706), famous for his "Canon" and an important predecessor of Bach in the development of German Baroque music; Johann Caspar Kerl (1627-1693), now little known; Froberger (b. 1616-1667), who studied with Frescobaldi and left many organ works; and J. J. Kuhl (1627-1694), who was a great organist. Johann Caspar Kerl (1627-1693), whose name is little known today; Froberger (1616 baptism-1667), who studied under Frescobaldi and left many organ works; and J.S. Bach. The album includes the highly flamboyant and improvisatory pieces that characterized the heyday of organ music, as well as J.S. Bach's great Toccata (Prelude) and Fugue in F major, BWV 540, which Mendelssohn described as "like a church about to fall" with its bold modulations. This album is not only for organ lovers, but also for classical music fans (again, the Audite label is proud to present a high-quality recording in SACD Hybrid). Also noteworthy are Pachelbel's Magnificat, in which the tenor takes the chorale usually played by the organ, and J.S. Bach's "My soul praises the Lord," BWV 733.Martin Neu, who won a prize at the J.S. Bach International Competition, is one of the best organists of our time, with his extremely neat and excellent articulation and precise registration suited to the piece and the organ used. He is currently the resident organist at St. Elisabeth's, St. Peter's, and St. Paul's churches in Reutlingen. Tenor Wilfried Lombach is currently choir director at St. Johannes Church, and is also active as an antique tenor singer in Europe and elsewhere. King International
