Description:

The great Bach's masterpiece is arranged for piano duo by his spiritual descendant Reger. Transformed and revived into super exciting piano pieces! This is the fourth album by the talented piano duo of Japanese Reie Takahashi and her German husband Björn Lehmann. The performance of "Brandenburg Concerto No. 5" arranged by Reger on the previous CD was so wonderful that there were calls from all over the world for the complete work, and this recording was made possible. Max Reger was a prolific composer and arranger, but he seemed to have a special attachment to the works of his spiritual ancestor, Bach, and experimented with a variety of forms. The Brandenburg Concerto, a masterpiece, was arranged for piano four hands in 1904-5, and although the combination could not have been more ideal for the work, it has rarely been performed or recorded. The reason is that, although Reger himself was a piano virtuoso, his arrangements were not as rational as those of Liszt or Rachmaninoff, but were considered "desk-bound" because Bach's intricate vocal parts were arranged into four hands, which played multiple melodies simultaneously, making the primo left hand incredibly difficult, and because there were too many hand crossings, making it extremely difficult to play on a single piano. The left hand of the primo is incredibly difficult to play, and there are so many hand crossings that it would be extremely difficult to play on a single piano. However, the Piano Duo Takahashi/Lehmann reproduced it perfectly at the specified tempo, demonstrating the tremendous effectiveness of Reger's arrangement. Bach's Brandenburg Concerto is fascinating in that each of the six pieces has a different instrumentation and makes full use of its characteristics and timbres, but Reger painted them all in piano colors, doubling the charm of the melody itself and the skill of the compositional technique, creating a series of "eye-opening" moments. Rareizations such as numbered bass notes are also intriguing. This is truly the world of Bach through Reger's ears. As a filler, Reger's arrangements for piano four hands of three of Bach's most popular organ pieces are also included. The grandeur of the famous "Toccata and Fugue," the high voltage of the "Passacaglia," and the emotion of "St. Ann" can be fully enjoyed in the audio sound world that only a duet can provide. All of these recordings are in the high sound quality that only Audite can provide. Only the "Brandenburg Concerto No. 5" is played on a Steinway, but the others are played on a Yamaha. Both Reie Takahashi and Björn Lehmann studied under Klaus Hellwig at the Berlin University of the Arts. Lehmann is currently a professor at the same school, and Takahashi and Lehmann are well known in Japan, where they often give master classes together. What is remarkable about these two musicians is that they are able to play a work written for four hands in four hands, no matter how complex it is, pursuing the meaning of the form in which it was written, even if it would be easier if it were divided between two instruments. With his deep reading of the score, exquisite ensemble playing, and brilliant technique, this is one of the stars of the piano duo world. King International
