The greatest Wagner soprano of the 20th century, Kirsten Flagstaedt (1895-1962), is still a very special person, even though she has been dead for almost half a century. The CD features a live concert at the Titania Palast in Berlin, where Fragstadt, at age 56, was gradually retiring from the stage, and in this concert, he sang not only songs but also "Tristan und Isolde The concert includes not only songs but also famous scenes from "Tristan and Isolde," "Götterdämmerung," and a monologue from "Elektra," which Flagstadt studied to sing but never sang on stage (the reasons for this are given in his autobiography).Flagstadt's voice, which a month later will record "Tristan und Isolde" conducted by Furtwängler in London, still retains the freshness of its prime, yet is also rich in mature taste and is truly a masterful art.
