Description:
Stückenschmidt, "Defender of Contemporary Music," revives his indefatigable project! Kolisch, Steuermann, Kruschenek, Rhea... "Berlin RIAS recordings of the New Viennese Music 1949-65" by top-notch performers, and "Pierrot Possessed by the Moon" (1924), a watercolor painting by Paul Klee. The latest release in the audite's RIAS sound source reissue series features works by Schoenberg, Berg, Webern, and others from the New Vienna Music School. 4 CDs, totaling 5 hours of music, are available. The New Viennese Music School was formed in the early 20th century in Vienna by Arnold Schoenberg (1874-1951) and his students Anton Webern (1883-1945) and Alban Berg (1885-1935), who developed an avant-garde style of atonalist and twelve-tone compositions that has continued to this day. They influenced many composers worldwide. This set contains a total of 23 works written by these New Vienna School composers between 1906 and 1950 (including Varga in 1951 and another performance of Schoenberg's "Fantasy" by Kolisch in 1953).The project promoted by Stückenschmidt, the "defender of contemporary music," was realized at the initiative of Hans Heinz Stückenschmidt (1901-1988), who was the director of the Berlin RIAS Contemporary Music Department after the war. It was realized. A renowned German musicologist, music critic, and composer, Stückenschmidt was known for his writings on Schöleberg, Bracher, and Busoni, among others, and was a "defender of contemporary music," especially for his early appreciation of Schoenberg's historical significance. Stückenschmidt, together with Josef Rüfer, also a leading Schoenberg scholar and conductor, worked to create an employment environment in which musicians returning from exile could devote themselves to these broadcast documentaries. The top-notch musicians who perform on the program are mostly Schoenberg's students or acquaintances, and are all very close to the composer. The violinist Kolisch, the pianists Steuermann and Else C. Krauss, and the conductor Zillich were all trained by Schoenberg, while the pianoist Stadlen and the violinist Varga were close friends of Schoenberg, Webern, and Berg. On the other hand, the performances by conductor Fritschai and soprano Danko, who were not members of the New Vienna School and did not receive direct performance instruction, are also of great value. The fact that they were passionate about these rarely performed works throughout their lives, without prejudice, makes them of particular interest. King International
