The long-awaited new album from Saigon Soul Revival, blending traditional Vietnamese music with a contemporary sensibility Completed following tours across Australia, Southeast Asia, China, and Europe, as well as an appearance on KEXP, *ChonTaVe (ThePlaceWeReturnTo)* is an album that tells a story of searching for “the place to return to,” centered on themes of love, loss, and self-discovery. While rooted in traditional Vietnamese music, the album incorporates diverse elements such as soul, funk, psychedelic, jazz, and Latin to present a unique brand of “global pop.” It actively incorporates traditional instruments like the T’rung and Sao Truc, and features guest appearances by master musicians such as Tran Minh Tuan. The album is packed with highlights, including “Ly Qua Dub,” which evokes the musical connections between Vietnam and its neighboring regions, and “Chachacha Ngay Tho,” which strongly reflects an affinity for Latin music. The entire album was recorded and mixed entirely in analog at InTheBox Studios in Saigon. Combining a rich vintage sound with a contemporary sensibility, this is a noteworthy work that symbolizes the ever-evolving Vietnamese music scene. This album marks a new milestone for the band, which has also garnered attention for providing music for “007 First Light” and various documentary films.
