This highly anticipated album features French bass singer Guillaume Orli and the Flams Consort exploring the sacred works of Heinrich Schütz, a master of the early German Baroque, and the composers who carried on his musical legacy. At the heart of this album is the “bass” voice—a vital element in Schütz’s music that embodies spiritual authority, human sorrow, and profound hope. Centered on Schütz’s works, the album also features compositions by Andreas Hammerschmidt, Christoph Bernhard, Franz Tunder, Nikolaus Brüns, and Samuel Capricornus. It brings to light the lineage of German Baroque music passed down from Schütz to subsequent generations. The Flamms Consort, formed specifically for this recording project, brings together musicians who met Orli through their studies at the Lyon National Conservatory of Music and subsequent activities, all united by a shared passion for German Baroque music. Drawing on historical sources and performance practice, they fuse a spirit of exploration of the style with a contemporary sensibility, breathing new life into this repertoire with rich expressiveness.
