The Göttingen International Handel Festival has been held since 1920. Every year, the festival has been a large-scale event with performances of Handel's operas and various other works, but the 100th anniversary in 2020 was unavoidably cancelled due to the Corona. This year's program, "Rodelinda," was selected from the first festival in 1920, and it was also Cummings' last year as music director of the festival, having served since 2012. The remaining live recordings of the festival are available on the website. The remaining live recordings of the festival give a vivid impression of the richness of the performances. Love and passion, jealousy and intrigue, complicated love affairs over the throne... A truly baroque opera, "Rodelinda" is a masterpiece bursting with the richly varied and emotional music that only Handel could produce. The demands on the performers are high, as the work was completed by Handel, who was blessed with first-rate singers and orchestras in London in the 1720s. Lawrence Cummings is a conductor and chamber musician who is a master of the English classical music world.He is an undisputed Handel specialist, having served as Music Director of the London Handel Festival since 1999 and as Music Director of the Göttingen International Handel Festival since 2012.
