Bach by Rafaela Smits, 8-string guitar specialist A collection of Bach works by internationally acclaimed female guitarist Rafaela Smits. Rafaela Smits studied at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp and the Brussels Conservatory in Belgium. In 1986, she became the first woman to win the 20th Francisco Talega Guitar Competition. Since then, she has been active in a wide range of activities as a performer, recording artist, jury member, and teacher. She is also highly regarded as a master of the 8-string guitar. She has developed her own style of 8-string guitar playing over the past 30 years based on traditional instruments from Eastern and Western Europe, North and South America, and Japan. In this arrangement, she plays the guitar made by Kolja Panhuysen to bring out the individuality of the instruments used in the original piece.
