The film also features scenes of intense rehearsals—sometimes laced with humor—where he tackles challenges with sweat pouring down his face, as well as moments of high tension just before concerts. It includes praise from contemporary masters such as Simon Rattle, the “foster father” of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and Daniel Barenboim, with whom he has collaborated as a pianist. In addition, his mother—who is also a musician—and his stepfather share memories of his hometown, Riga, accompanied by childhood photographs, while Nelsons himself reflects on his time at his alma mater, the Riga Music Academy, and his early days as a trumpet player. The documentary features performance footage from the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the WDR Symphony Orchestra, and the Vienna State Opera, as well as rehearsal scenes from *Lohengrin* with Klaus Florian Vogt—a collaboration that garnered significant attention at the 2011 Bayreuth Festival— scenes of him spending time at home with his beloved dog and his wife, the soprano Kristine Opolais—who is also from Latvia—as well as images of him joyfully looking at photos of his beloved daughter, born in February 2012, and candid shots of him innocently playing in the snow; and scenes of him inviting children to orchestra rehearsals and answering their questions—all fascinating glimpses into the extremely busy daily life and true personality of this young, world-renowned conducting prodigy. The bonus footage includes scenes from his visit to his hometown of Riga with his orchestra, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
