Puccini's "Nun Angelica" conducted by Nelsons, Opolais, Brown, Ertmann, Selduk, and a lineup of talented female singers! This is a new recording of Puccini's "Nun Angelica" produced by the West German Radio in Cologne. The conductor is Andris Nelsons, who was born in 1978 in Riga, Latvia. Although still in his early thirties, he has been the music director of the prestigious City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra since 2008, and in 2010 he was selected to conduct "Lohengrin," which caused a sensation at the Bayreuth Festival. This performance of Puccini is also full of brilliance. The title role is played by Christine Opolais, a soprano also from Latvia who has become very popular in Germany in recent years. The Duchess is played by Lioba Braun, a well-known Wagner mezzo-soprano. The Mother Superior is Nadezhda Serdyuk, a mezzo who plays at the Mariinsky Theatre.It is also noteworthy that the nun Genovieffa is sung by Mojca Ertmann, who is currently the talk of the town. In the margin is Puccini's Symphonic Prelude, also conducted by Nelsons. It is a study from when Puccini was a student at the Milan Conservatory, and the material was later used in "Edgar," but there have not been many recordings of it, and this is the first new recording in a long time.
