Renowned Bass-Baritone George London Gives a Recital in Vienna! George London, a bass-baritone active in the 1950s and 1960s, is widely known for his work in opera, but he also delivered magnificent performances in art songs. This CD features a recital recorded on June 11, 1964, at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna. As expected, his signature Mussorgsky is simply in a class of its own! Furthermore, his renditions of Schubert and Ibert, sung with his rich, resonant voice, are truly unique. Although the recording is in mono, the sound quality is excellent, allowing you to fully savor the charm of London at the height of his career. As a bonus, the CD includes a Duparc piece performed in New York in 1955. It’s a rendition with a unique charm, quite different from the typical interpretation of Duparc.
