Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet in C minor! When asked which of Mozart’s chamber works is the most captivating, many people would likely answer, “The Clarinet Quintet in A Major.” And when it comes to woodwind concertos, the Clarinet Concerto is undoubtedly the first to come to mind. For Mozart, the clarinet must certainly have been a very special instrument. The piece you can hear here is, believe it or not, the “Clarinet Quintet in C minor.” Mozart composed the Wind Serenade in C minor (K. 388) in 1782 and arranged it for string quintet in 1788 (K. 406), this Clarinet Quintet in B-flat minor was arranged by a man named Vincent Gambaro [1746–1810]. It could be considered a new discovery among Mozart’s clarinet quintets. The other tracks also feature interesting arrangements by composers other than Mozart.
