Can you believe it? Fischer-Dieskau’s Schütz! Rare recordings have been rediscovered! A large number of recordings of Schütz sung by Fischer-Dieskau have been rediscovered! Although Fischer-Dieskau boasted an enormous repertoire, it seems he recorded only a single Schütz piece in 1961. This release features nine pieces recorded in the 1950s at SWR in Stuttgart. All are accompanied by a modest, small-scale orchestra (with the addition of a harpsichord), and depending on the piece, feature guest performers or a choir. At the time, Fischer-Dieskau was around 30 years old, and even half a century later, her fresh voice and intelligent interpretation still sound completely contemporary. Given that Fischer-Dieskau was highly acclaimed for her performances of Bach’s sacred music, these Schütz recordings are also of an exceptionally high standard. These are archival recordings from a broadcasting station; although in mono, the sound quality is excellent. This is an extremely valuable CD for Fischer-Dieskau fans!
