Expert Cambreling Presents Berlioz’s “Harold in Italy” & Highlights from His Operas Berlioz’s symphony “Harold in Italy” joins Cambreling’s series dedicated to the composer. “Harold in Italy,” commissioned by Paganini, shares similarities with the tumultuous “Symphonie fantastique” in its programmatic content and autobiographical character—a trait typical of the self-conscious Berlioz. Furthermore, it shares the common feature of the recurring “Harold” motif, passed on from the viola solo, which is used throughout the entire piece. To date, Hanssler has released the dramatic symphony “Romeo and Juliet,” a collection of overtures, and a song cycle, as well as a “Requiem” and “The Childhood of Christ” from GlorClassics. As Cambreling considers himself an expert on Berlioz, we can expect him to portray the lively Allegro movements and the finale—with its tangled web of passion and frenzy—with his unique, intense aesthetic sensibility. Furthermore, the accompanying tracks are equally impressive, featuring the resplendent “Hungarian March” and “The King’s Hunt and the Storm,” as well as the exquisitely colored “Dance of the Fairies”—a program in which Cambreling’s sense of color is sure to shine. Sushi, who performs the viola solo in “Harold in Italy,” is the orchestra’s principal player and a student of Hatt Bayerle of the Alban Berg Quartet. [Comment provided by King International] ---
