The world of Leopardi, a lyric poet from 200 years ago, is brought back to life as music of this century through Ospart’s hands The “Leopardi Cycle,” a series of works written by German composer Klaus Ospart between 2005 and 2011. Based on the poem “Flowers in the Desert” by the Italian poet Giacomo Leopardi (late 18th to early 19th century), this CD features the third, fifth, and fourth works from the six-part series. Leopardi’s pessimistic, lyrical world—written nearly 200 years ago—lives on in the music as universal themes relevant to the present day. These works create a unique world through eerie bass tones, electronically distorted timbres, and the diffused resonance produced by the various instruments and the choir.
