Although the term “early” is still rarely applied to Stockhausen’s works, these pieces from the early days of one of the greatest composers of the postwar European avant-garde have had a profound influence on musicians of his generation. While they share common elements, one is struck by just how diverse each piece is. This collection of works conveys the sheer magnitude of Stockhausen’s early development. Ensemble Leshelles is a group of masters indispensable to today’s contemporary music scene. Since its founding in 1985, the ensemble has premiered some 450 works and has made a significant contribution to the development of contemporary chamber and ensemble music.
