Active since the 1960s, Slade emerged during the glam rock era of the early 1970s, with 17 consecutive Top 20 songs and six #1 singles in the UK Singles Chart. One of the most successful British groups of the 1970s in terms of single sales, Slade was the first artist to have three singles reach #1 in the charts. Their flamboyant costumes and stage presence made them a firm favorite as a live act, and this live recording was broadcast on BBC Radio One's "In Concert" on September 30, 1972. The band also played on "Slade Alive!" and other songs, including covers of Little Richard and Janis Joplin.
