A wonderful collection of modern French violin works by a promising young Bulgarian, Illarionova! A nice collection of modern French violin works from an unexpected source. This is probably the first CD by a young Bulgarian violinist, Zornitsa Illarionova. There is no detailed biography about her on this CD, but she was born in 1992 in Pleven, northern Bulgaria. Her mother is also a violinist. After completing her studies at the National Conservatory of Music in Sofia, she went on to study at the Queen Sofia Conservatory in Madrid with Zakhar Bron, a native of Kazakhstan and a great brother of Oistrakh, and at the New Bulgarian University in Sofia with the renowned Bulgarian violinist Mario Hossen. Although she has only been active internationally for five years, listeners to this CD will realize that she already has great appeal. She has a fine but beautiful tone, and she plays in a way that is not bombastic, but rather puts love into the sound. The waltz-like exercises of Saint-Saens/Ysaye, which are often played in a show of skill, have a salon-like elegance.Even well-known pieces such as Chausson's Poems, Franck's Sonata, and Debussy's Sonata are played with care and without fuss, and although they may not be in the mature taste, you will enjoy their young and honest quality.
