Description:
Rediscovered in the 2000s, Hélène de Montgerud's works show exceptional inspiration and modernity, and are a precursor to the great Romantic composers born some 50 years later. Her works continue to fascinate musicians and music lovers today, but have never been recorded on a French piano of the same era. Masha Hadzhimakos, a leading authority on historical keyboard instruments, has filled this void by recording on a piano built in Paris in 1817 by Antoine Neuhaus and recently restored by Matthieu Vion. The instrument is a very special one, deeply rooted in the composer's own life and a great source of inspiration for him. This instrument allows us to rediscover the vast palette of tones, colors, and textures that the composer himself knew and appreciated so well. The booklet includes a commentary "The Age of Montgeroux" by Mashaiah Hadjimarkos, an overview of the composer's life and work by Jerome Dorival, a musicologist specializing in Montgeroux, and a piano performance presentation by Matthieu Vion.
