Ensemble Diderot's Lutist Jadran Duncombe Solo Debut! Jadran Duncombe is a baroque guitarist and luthier of British, Croatian, and Norwegian descent who won the BBC Young Musician of the Year in the string category in 2008 and the first prize at the Maurizio Pratola Lute Competition in Italy in 2015. In 2015, he won first prize at the Maurizio Pratola Lute Competition in Italy. Jadran Duncum's first solo recording with Johannes Plamzoller on the ambitious album "Suite with Bach and Weiss" (ADX 13706). The two sonatas are the late D minor sonata by Silvius Leopold Weiss, which has not been performed very often, and two unknown sonatas by Johann Adolph Hasse, revived from manuscripts in Leipzig. The two lute sonatas by the next generation of outstanding lutenists vividly depict two very different styles from the same period: Hasse, who skillfully adopted the Gallant style that was newly popular at the time, and Weiss, who was sensitive to trends but based his sonatas on the majestic Baroque style.
