Coral: The Height of Maturity Fauré’s Endlessly Clear and Beautiful Sound Jean-Philippe Corall (born 1948) is a master of French music. He recorded Fauré’s complete solo piano works and chamber music as early as 1970, immediately after winning the Georges Sziffra International Competition, a feat that established Corall as a world-renowned Fauré specialist. Now, 50 years later, he has re-recorded the 13 Barques. The impetus for this re-recording came when, while listening to a performance of the Barques that happened to come on the car radio recently, he found himself lost in thought—only to realize it was his own performance. That’s when he decided, “I simply must record this again.” She renders the barques—which come in a variety of styles—with the effortless ease of humming a tune, yet with beautifully resonant, perfectly balanced harmonies. She also portrays the ballades with elegance and technical mastery, imbuing them with a rich sense of fantasy. King International
