The power and color of the music is like that of an orchestra. Pécha and Cassard's superb duo perform Liszt's arrangement of the Ninth in 2020, the year of Beethoven, with a variety of discs appearing, and another gorgeous disc of note is now available. The 9th arranged by Liszt for two pianos was session-recorded in January 2020 by the young Swiss duo Pescha and the veteran French duo Cassard. In the first place, Casar, who was pondering what to do in the Beethoven Year, got the idea from listening to the Rural Symphony arranged by Liszt and played by Michel Dalbert, which had been released on Harmonia Mundi. Intrigued by the Ninth, he chose the two-piano version, which is more effective and powerful than the solo version, and the recording with Pescha, who had played this piece in the past, was realized. Péchaat played the first piano and Casar the second piano, both of whom had played this piece before, but not only was it physically demanding and exhausting for both players, but it also required careful attention to tone changes and pedaling, as each instrument of the orchestra and even the voices were expressed on the piano. Therefore, the recording took a year to prepare and was made after many adjustments.Pescha is a great admirer of Yasujiro Ozu's films, and he admits that this influence is evident in his interpretation of Bach's music, and I was curious to see if it was evident in the 9th as well. Casar, who also has a reputation for accompanying singers, is well versed in vocal music, and both the solo and chorus in the finale reached the ears as if they were voices.
