Description:

A Cinderella Tale in Cowell and Prokofiev's WorksAn interesting program of discs featuring a combination of Henry Cowell's piano works and Prokofiev's "Cinderella" is now available. Cowell's (1897-1965, USA) music, known for its tone clusters and complex rhythms, is arranged here to accompany scenes from the "Cinderella" story. For example, track 3, "Aeolian Harp," features the appearance of an "old nymph (beggar)," track 17, "Banshee," the sound of bells tolling midnight, and the final track, "Fairy Bells," an epilogue to the Cinderella story... The final piece, "Fairy Bells," is an epilogue to the story of Cinderella...Lachoumia's original idea for this piece brings the story of Cinderella to life and opens our ears to the sound world of Cowell. =In the words of Lachumia = I found that Cowell's piano music and Prokofiev's "Cinderella" are a perfect match. In a manner of speaking, they are mirror images of each other. Each piece relates to a simple theme, and one of my favorite themes: fairy tales. The sound world is played and enacted between the imaginary world of a child and the imaginary world of an adult. This is why I have combined the works of Cowell and Prokofiev. Their works not only correspond to each other, but also accentuate each other. The program for this concert is the result of careful consideration. <Born in Lyon, France in 1974.
