Following a program of piano arrangements of Wagner's works (LDV 16), this disc features Falla. It includes Falla's first major work, the percussion ensemble-inspired and vibrant "Four Spanish Pieces," as well as his last piano work, the ascetic world of "For the Epitaph of Paul Dukas." The "Fantasias from the Bética (the ancient name of Andalusia) Region," a work dedicated to Rubinshtein, is a grand piece, pierced with dry harmony and superb technique under the scorching sun.
