Both Worlds--Michel Petrucciani's new step, or a way to juxtapose different (identical) entities and merge the best of the mutual elements through a period of tours, records, and large-scale projects. In other words, it is both duality and equilibrium. Geographically, the project takes us from Paris to New York, and culturally, it is a collaboration between three European musicians and three Americans. Clearly, "Both Worlds" is a fruitful testament to the different yet compatible meeting of two worlds, namely the creative spaces of composer and arranger.For the first time in his career, he entrusted his own masterpiece to jazz tailor and bespoke poet Bob Brookmeyer. The result is a magical work, a composition steeped in classics and standards, built on the most contemporary rhythm section, while retaining the "two-worlds" quality characteristic of the pianist's work. Joy, melancholy, humor, and a variety of moods.The recording boasts a rich emotional palette, and is peppered with homages to Rodgers & Hart's "Petite Louise," Return to Forever's "35 Seconds of Music and More," Maurice Chevalier's "On Top of the Roof," and Hollywood musicals ( Chloe Meets Gershwin," which quotes Johnny Mercer's "A Foggy Day" and "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers") are also sprinkled throughout. In its rich discography, Both Worlds is an innovative attempt to highlight the pianist's work in a new light. And for the first time, Michel Petrucciani has formed a true group, a homogeneous composition in which his presence and role are no longer perceived as the dominant element.
