Description:
Che Gurim makes his solo debut! A collection of late 18th century German cello concertos! Johannes Plamzoller's own label, Audax Records, presents the solo recording debut of Che Gurim, principal cellist of the Ensemble Diderot! Cello concertos by unknown cello virtuosos who worked at the Prussian court! Includes Japanese commentary! Baroque cello (and viola da gamba) virtuoso Choi Goo-rim from Korea, who was the principal cellist of Ensemble Diderot, an ancient instrument group founded by new age baroque violinist Johannes Plamzoller, and has participated in many famous recordings by the ensemble, makes his debut as a solo recording artist. Unlike Italy, where the cello was freed from the role of bass instrument and became a "solo instrument" at the end of the 17th century, Germany, where the cello had long been a simple accompaniment instrument, finally began to acquire a new status with this collection of cello concertos from the late 18th century.Of the four composers featured here, only Carl Friedrich Abel, who played in the Dresden court orchestra, is relatively well known, while the other three are less well known, but all were musicians (both composers and cello and violin virtuosos) who played in King Frederick the Great's court orchestra. cello and violin) who played in the orchestra at the court of Frederick the Great. The remaining three are not well known, but all were active in the court orchestra of King Frederick the Great (both as composers and cello and violin virtuosos), and their music can be compared to that of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, the Graun and Benda brothers, who were recruited by the Great King from the Dresden court to the Prussian (Berlin) court orchestra. This recording reveals a previously unknown aspect of the German musical world of the pre-classical period. These works, which are thought to have been performed mainly at private concerts, are accompanied by a string quartet of two violins, viola, and double bass, plus theorbo & lute and harpsichord as bass continuo.
