The Quiet, Quaint World of the Enigmatic Great Composer Pierre Corin Pierre Corin (c. 1538–1572) was a French composer and organist. Although he was a leading figure of the generation following Josquin des Prez, so little is known about his life that he is often referred to as a “forgotten treasure of the Renaissance.” Although he is believed to have spent most of his life in Autun, Burgundy, the fact that copies of his Masses have been preserved in the cathedrals of Bologna and Treviso, Italy, suggests that his works were performed in various locations. Nevertheless, La Note Brève, led by Simon Gallo, is striving to shed light on Corin—whose personal life remains obscure—by researching and performing several of his works. La Note Brève is a Japanese early music ensemble consisting of a positive organist and five vocalists. They present quiet, rustic singing in the medieval-style church of Gigol-et-Roslon in the Drôme region of southern France. Their music evokes a spiritual world that foreshadows the works of later composers such as Sévrac and Cantou. King International
