Centered on the theme of “The Encounter Between Music and Literature,” this album features works primarily based on Telemann’s novels. A masterpiece renowned for its stunning depictions of scenes expressed solely through instrumental music. Telemann is one of the leading composers of the Baroque era. This CD, themed around the fusion of novels and music, features works based on novels—such as the “Burlesque on Don Quixote” and the “Gulliver Suite”—selected from Telemann’s vast body of work. While works based on Don Quixote are well-known in Europe, it can be said that Telemann was the first to tackle this subject as an instrumental composition. True to the spirit of a burlesque (a comic piece), it portrays the character of Don Quixote at times cheerfully and at times passionately. The greatest appeal of the “Gulliver Suite” lies in its masterful depiction of the contrasting characters: the giant Gulliver and the Lilliputians. To depict the movements of the Lilliputians, Telemann employs surprising time signatures such as 24/1 and 32/3; listening while following the sheet music included in the CD booklet offers a whole new level of enjoyment. This album is filled with the lighthearted and elegant sound characteristic of Telemann. Réséspri Animo is an up-and-coming ensemble formed in the Netherlands in 2009.
