Description:
A Dramatic Performance by Aralcon! A Collection of Musical Dramas by J.S. Bach Featuring a stellar lineup of soloists, including Ryo Sakurada and Van der Linde A deluxe edition that also includes live footage from the 2011 Ambrosiana Music Festival! Led by Aralcon—whose rare album (AMY026) featuring Falvetti’s *The Great Flood* also generated significant buzz—the Namur Chamber Choir & Les Agrémons are back with a new release that is sure to captivate fans of Baroque vocal music! True to the album’s title, *Bach Drama*, this collection features three works from J.S. Bach’s secular cantatas that are particularly rich in dramatic elements. The texts for *The Contest Between Phoebus and Pan* and *Hercules at the Crossroads* were written by C.F. Picander, who also penned the *St. Matthew Passion*. Each work opens and closes with a solemn chorus, with soloists alternating between brilliant recitatives and arias in between. All three works are filled with a lively atmosphere, and the distinctive characters are brilliantly brought to life through vibrant music. In addition to the lively interplay among the soloists, the refined instrumental ensemble is another major highlight. From the grand orchestral sound to the intimate ensemble of period instruments, the diverse range of timbres is truly captivating. The stellar lineup of soloists is another major draw of this album. Soprano Celine Schoen is a renowned artist who has garnered worldwide attention for her beauty and exquisite voice. Countertenor Clint van der Linde, who has frequently performed with the Bach Collegium Japan, is highly acclaimed for his noble voice and compelling expressiveness. Ryo Sakurada, who received critical acclaim both in Japan and abroad for *Judas Maccabaeus* (MIR024), once again showcases his magnificent vocals on this album. The Namur Chamber Choir’s vocals remain as fresh as ever, making them the perfect fit for this lively musical drama. Together with Les Agremonts, they create harmonies brimming with clarity. The bonus DVD features live footage from the 2011 Ambrosane Music Festival! The result is a lavish album that allows you to fully savor J.S. Bach’s theatrical world with your eyes as well.
