Early 18th Century Rome's Brilliant World of Religious Music RecreatedFrom the mid-17th to the early 18th century, Rome was at the height of its religious music. Although largely forgotten today, a great deal of brilliant and magnificent music was produced. One of the most important composers was Pietro Paolo Bencini. In his later years, he was the director of the chapel of St. Peter's Basilica and was highly respected, and his religious music was sung there until the end of the 19th century. This album reconstructs the evening prayer, one of the Catholic daily prayers, using works by Benchini. The missing parts are complemented by the Magnificat by Alessandro Scarlatti, creating a moving world. Ensemble Jacques Moderne, founded in 1973, is an ancient music ensemble that performed in Japan at the Forgeurne Festival in 2016. Conductor Joel Soubier is a talented tenor singer with experience at Christie's Les Arts Florissants and the Collegium Vocale in Herreweghe. King International
