Description:
Including the lost movements of the Bulgarian-born talent Liya Petrova Barber! The 2016 winner of the Carl Nielsen Violin Competition in Denmark, Liya Petrova's CD is now available. An "effortless virtuoso" and "unparalleled diversity of tone," this remarkable performer effortlessly moves from smoldering to flamboyant. She has programmed works by Beethoven, Britten, and Barber, all of whom were written at turning points in their careers, beginning with the B movement. Barber's movement is noteworthy. Of the original three-movement sonata, only the third movement, for which the score is still extant, was performed. Barber's sonata was completed in 1928 and premiered on December 10 of the same year at a concert by students of the composition class at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia (the program at that time listed it as a three-movement work). It was premiered with the composer himself at the piano and a violinist named Gama Gilbert. After this premiere, Barber neglected the sonata. It was only in 2006 that an autograph score was discovered and recognized as Barber's work by Barbara Hyman, author of a biography of Barber. This movement is the third movement. It is written in the Brahms style and contains passages similar to those in Barber's cello sonata, with some Bartók influence. So far, no score for the first and second movements has been found. However, the pages of the third movement suggest that the 18-year-old composer was highly devoted to the chamber music of the great German composers, making it a very interesting and valuable movement. Beethoven's sonata was written in 1802, when Beethoven was aware of his ear trouble, and his last will and testament in Heiligenstadt was also written during this period. Britten's suite was written at the age of 22, at the end of his student life and at the beginning of his professional career. Liya Petrova was born into a musical family in Bulgaria, and began serious musical studies in Germany at the age of 11. She continued her studies in Dumay (Belgium), Renaud Capuçon (Switzerland), and Antje Weidhaas (Germany).Boris Kusnetsov, piano, won the German Music Competition in 2009. Born in Moscow, he studied at the Gnessin Conservatory and moved to Germany at the age of eight to study with Professor Bernd Goecke in Hannover. Along with his solo activities, he is actively involved in chamber music and song accompaniment. King International
