It was a piece that their mentor, Brigitte Engeller, used to perform with Boris Berezovsky, and they recorded it at her strong recommendation. Not only will you be captivated by the uniquely stylish phrasing of the famous theme, but the rapid, flamboyant climax in the second half fits perfectly and is truly thrilling. Furthermore, Ravel’s exquisitely crafted “Rhapsodie espagnole,” Grieg’s folk-inspired pieces, and Barber’s “Souvenir,” which evokes the good old days of America, are all brimming with brilliance.
