The definitive album of Dukas’s piano works is finally here! Hervé Billeau studied under Germaine Munier and Jean Yvaut at the Paris Conservatory and won first prize at the age of 16. A highly virtuosic pianist, he has also recorded a superb CD featuring the complete “Iberia” by Albéniz. Although only these four piano works by Dukas survive, the Piano Sonata is a monumental piece with a running time of 42 and a half minutes. It is a formidable challenge that demands not only technical difficulty but also immense and solid compositional skill. Biyo pulls the listener along with his brisk tempo. The climax of the finale, in particular, is so powerful it surpasses even an orchestra. “Variations on a Theme by Rameau, Intermezzo, and Finale” is not particularly well-known, but it is a formidably difficult piece. Biyo handles it with ease, allowing the listener to fully savor the beauty of the music. King International
