The Modigliani String Quartet, which has been called "the finest quartet in the world today" (South German Newspaper), celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2013, and is a quartet that is sure to continue to mature and develop its ensemble. The quartet's collection of modern French string quartets (MIR188/KKC5305), which includes works by Debussy, Saint-Saens, and Ravel, was highly acclaimed for its fresh ensemble and rich expressiveness, and was selected as a special selection by Record Geijutsu (Record Arts). This album is a collection of Haydn's string quartets, which he also featured in his first album on the MIRARE label (MIR065). This is Haydn's humorous No. 75, which is popularly known as the first piece in the Erdödy Quartet Collection. No. 44, the first of the Prussian Quartets dedicated to King Friedrich Wilhelm II, is a lively and vital work. And No. 81, the first of the Lopkowitz Quartets, Haydn's last string quartet collection.It is a sublime and musically very full piece, beautifully intertwined with each instrument and beautifully played by Modigliani's tight-knit ensemble.
