A treasure of Spanish pianism since La Rocha, Spanish virtuoso Luis Fernando Perez is well-known at Perez's Falla Folle Journée Music Festival. With his brilliant technique and clear musicality with a unique sense of rhythm, he is regarded as the leader of the Spanish piano world after La Rocha's death. All of Perez's Spanish works are nothing short of superb, and this is the long-awaited collection of works by Falla. His concerto for piano and orchestra, "A Night in the Garden of Spain," was performed at the 2013 Folle Journée Festival, and its appearance on this disc is a most welcome addition to the repertoire. Compared to Albéniz and Granados, Falla's solo piano works are not numerous and popular.This album is a superb and fascinating lineup, featuring "A Night in the Garden of Spain" as the main work, and a collection of the composer's own arrangements for solo piano of some of the most popular numbers from Falla's works, from the ballets "The Triangle Hat" and "Love is a Sorceress". The guitar-like percussion and rhythmic deftness of the seguidillas and fandangos are noteworthy, but the tremendous effect of the "Fire Festival Dance" is also exciting. King International
